What is an Image Blur Tool?
An image blur tool is a privacy and design utility that obscures parts of an image (or the entire image) by averaging the color values of neighboring pixels. This effectively hides sensitive information such as faces, license plates, or text documents. Our tool offers both selective brush blurring and full-canvas Gaussian blur.
How to Use This Blur Tool
- Upload your image using the drag-and-drop zone.
- Choose Paint Blur to selectively blur parts of the image, or Full Image Blur to blur the entire photo.
- Adjust the brush size and blur strength (or full-image radius) to fit your needs.
- Paint over any sensitive information, faces, or text. Use the "Clean Blur" brush to fix mistakes.
- Click Save blurred Image to download the result to your device.
Examples / Use Cases
Use Case 1: Redacting Sensitive Documents
Upload a screenshot of a bank statement or an invoice. Use the Paint Blur brush to obscure account numbers, addresses, and balances before sending the image to customer support.
Use Case 2: UI Design Backgrounds
Upload a landscape photo and use the Full Image Blur mode with a high blur radius. This creates a smooth, abstract background perfect for overlaying white text in a web design mockup.
Advantages and Limitations
- Advantages: Immediate local processing, no file size upload limits, highly responsive undo/redo system, and guarantees 100% data privacy.
- Limitations: Being a raster-based blur, heavily blurred text cannot be "unblurred" once exported, but it provides no mathematical guarantee against specialized forensic un-blurring techniques if the blur radius is set too low (always use a high blur strength for sensitive text).
Privacy & Security
Confidentiality is built-in. This tool processes all images locally using HTML5 Canvas APIs directly in your browser. No images are ever uploaded to a server, making it completely secure for sensitive, medical, financial, or corporate data.
